Big Pine California is the entrance to the Ancient Bristlecone Forest, at an elevation of 10,000 feet. The oldest trees grow on outcrops of dolomite. These slow-growing trees add sometimes only 1/100th of an inch per year. These trees exceed 4,000 years of age and are a photographer’s paradise.
Traveling to the site should usually be between May and November; winter snowfall closes the road, but you can call the information line for current road conditions at 760-873-2500.
